Book Launching Ceremony for China-Africa Trade and Economic Relationship Annual Report 2010
The Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation (CAITEC) under the Ministry of Commerce held a book launching ceremony for China-Africa Trade and Economic Relationship Annual Report 2010 on October 14, 2010. More than 100 people attended the ceremony, including leaders from the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, diplomatic envoys from African countries, officials from resident offices of international organizations in Beijing, news media representatives as well as experts and scholars from NGOs and a number of societies and research institutes related to Sino-African affairs.
Economic and trade cooperation between the People’s Republic of China and Africa dates back to the 1950s. Over the past 60 years, China has adhered to the principles of sincerity, equality and mutual benefit, and cooperation and common development, and has proactively promoted economic and trade cooperation. China-Africa economic and trade collaboration makes a significant contribution to the economic development of both sides. It is a model for the South-South Cooperation and has received kudos from the African people and governments.
In 2009 Sino-African trade volume reached 91.07 billion USD, with China becoming Africa’s largest trade partner. By the end of 2009, the stock of China’s direct investment in Africa hit 9.3 billion USD while Africa’s direct investment in China amounted to 9.93 billion USD. Chinese enterprises are actively engaged in infrastructure construction—housing, roads, water conservation and hydropower, communications and transportation—in African countries. China also provides financial support for infrastructure construction in Africa. China has aided more than 50 African countries and participated in over 800 projects in areas such as housing, agriculture, water conservation, electricity, communications, and transportation. China has dispatched 17,000 medical personnel to Africa and cancelled 312 liabilities for the heavily indebted poor or least developed African countries. The eight measures proposed at the Beijing Summit under the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in 2006 have been fully implemented.
To promote understanding of the history and current state of the China-African economic and trade relationship in the international community, as well as among Chinese and African people and those concerned about the Sino-African relationship, the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation (CAITEC) under the Ministry of Commerce has compiled a book titled China-Africa Trade and Economic Relationship Annual Report 2010. The report contains three parts: A History of China-Africa Economic and Trade Relations, China-Africa Economic and Trade Relations in 2009 and Outlook for China-Africa Trade and Economic Cooperation in 2010. This report is issued as a limited edition in Chinese, English and French.
