The situation is calm and stable at Collum Coal Mine
An incident due to pay dispute broke out at the Collum Coal Mine in Sinazongwe, Southern Province of Zambia. Eleven local workers and three Chinese were injured, and some of the mining property was seriously damaged.

After the incident broke out, Chinese Embassy in Zambia immediately contacted relevant Zambian ministries, the police as well as local authorities, and adopted measures to ease the situation, including sending officials to gather information on the site, urging the mine owner to pay due salaries to local employees, paying visits to the injured and arranging a negotiation between the two parties for a fair salary settlement. The Zambian side also dispatched a joint-team to investigate the incident. Up to now, tensions at the coal mine have been eased and production is soon to be resumed.

Chinese government consistently requires its overseas companies to comply with the laws and regulations of the host countries, and get on well with the local people. We support Zambia to investigate and deal with this incident according to local laws, and bring the offenders and the ringleaders of the riot to book. We believe that this is only an isolated incident, and will not affect the time-honored friendship and the reciprocal cooperation between China and Zambia.
