Chipata Ginnery Plant Launches the Official Opening Ceremony
Chipata Ginnery Plant, which lies in Chipata city of Zambia, Launched the Official opening Ceremony on June 14, 2005.
Zambian President Mr. Levy Mwanawasa, among with Mr. Zhao Zhanbin and Mr. Zhang Shudong, the charge de’ affaires and the economic and commercial counseller from the Chinese Embassy in Zambia, and other Zambian high officials, attended the opening ceremony.
Mr. Mwanawasa commended the investment in the agriculture field in Zambia by the Chinese company, saying it is a great contribution to the growth of agriculture in Zambia. “Growing of corps like cotton contributed to the economic growth of the country and the province in particular,” said the president.
Mr. Zhao attributed the establishment of the joint venture to the improved investment environment and the success in fighting against corruption after Mwanawasa’s inauguration. “It’s all these achievements that make Zambia so attractive, so promising for foreign investors, especially for the investors from Qingdao, China,” he said.
“This project is a typical example of win-win model,” said Mr. Zhao, citing that the ginnery has already established long-term cooperation with more than 4,000 local farmers for the supply of cotton, which means more job opportunities in the region.
The ginnery plant which is jointly set up by Kabwe-based Zambia-China Mulungushi Textile Joint Venture Ltd. and the local Nyimba Group, currently employs 120 premanent employees who work in two shifts. And it has the capability of processing up to about one tenth of the country’s total cotton output or 20,000 tons annually.
